As the warm weather months near, the club officers of the York River Yacht Club (YRYC) are getting ready for the 2022 racing season!  

Running from April to early November of each year, YRYC holds a weekly racing series as well as special races, including the York River Cup, a Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association (CBYRA) sanctioned race.

Racers come from a number of area marinas to participate in our racing events and other social activities.

Who is eligible to participate in YRYC racing events?  

  • Any monohull boat that meets PHRF of The Chesapeake, Inc. Minimum Equipment and Accommodation Standards, Category 6P
  • A completed YRYC Race Entry Form, 2022 PHRF certificate, and registration fee submitted to the YRYC Race Captain prior to competing in any YRYC race

YRYC Weekly Race Events for 2022
Practice Race: 

April 9

Regular Season Racing:

April 16 – Sept 24

Weekend Racing Series – Three series (Spring, Summer and Fall) of eight races each, for a total of twenty-four races, are scheduled. Six races in each series will count toward the series and season trophies.
Oct 2 – Nov 6 The Frostbite Series, Fall Sunday afternoon racing series, consisting of six races.
YRYC Special Races for 2022
Sunday, June 26 Single and Double Handed Race – Only one person is permitted aboard the boat for the Single-Handed Race, two for the Double.  Electronic autopilots may not be used during the races. Participants are required to wear an approved PFD at all times during the race. This will be a non-spinnaker race.
Saturday, July 16 The Moonlight Race starts in the evening and finishes after dark, following a course that will take competitors out around York Spit Light and back. Winners of the Moonlight Race receive the John Dworak Memorial Trophy. This race will include a spinnaker and a non-spinnaker Fleet.
Saturday, September 17 York River Cup is the YRYC’s premier annual racing event. Sanctioned by the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association (CBYRA)
