Rear Commodore Report for January 2023

Rear Commodore Report Banner

Dear Fellow Yacht Club Members,

I trust you enjoyed your holidays, and this message finds you well and warm.  Myself, being in south Florida right now, just blew out my flipflop and had to cruise on back to the boat.

I have a few things in mind for the winter months around the Williamsburg and Richmond.  So, I hope you will want to join in to keep up with fellow members before we head back to the marina!

During the covid years, we attempted zoom cocktail hour twice a month (Jan-Mar), which just was not the same.  So, this year, I have asked Laura B. to host in-person meet-ups in the Williamsburg area, and John & Liz will host a meetup in the Richmond area .  We also have a talented musician in our group, who performs around the Gloucester, Williamsburg, New Kent areas, which he will keep me posted on dates, and of course I’ll pass that along to you.  But here is what is in the works right now.

  • January 25th @ 5pm Casa Pearl ($) – Join our friend Laura B for snacks, beverages, and possibly dinner. You can RSVP here
  • February 25th @ 2-4pm Drive Shack RVA ($) – Why don’t you take a Saturday afternoon drive to the Drive Shack to join John & Liz to hit a few balls, and possibly grab a bite somewhere.  You don’t need to know how to play golf, and the place is heated!  Details to be finalized soon. You can reserve your spot here.
  • March 11th @ 6pm St. Patrick’s Party – Jamie H will be leading the fun and wearing her green in hopes of not getting pinched.  Watch for your invitation soon!
  • April 1st @ 3pm Copper Fox Distillery ($) – Some of you may know the owners of this establishment keep their boat at YRYH.  We have arranged a tour of their facility, and they are excited to show us around. You can reserve your spot here!
  • April 29th @ 9am – 2pm: Blessing of the Fleet – It’s getting warm outside, and folks are de-winterizing their boats.  Join us for breakfast snacks and lunch…REMEMBER to bring your socks to burn.
  • TBD – Mariners Museum ($) – Have you been?  I would like to arrange a date/time for a group (no larger than 20) for a group tour of the Museum highlights.  This could be done on a Saturday anytime in winter or spring.  Afterwards, I HIGHLY suggest a visit to a wonderful member-suggested restaurant Aago.
  • And of course, Commodore’s Cocktail Parties!  We look forward to those resuming in person April 7, weather permitting!

Events planned for later in 2023, so be sure to save the date, include:

  • Oct 28th Halloween Party
  • Dec 2nd Yorktown lighted boat parade
  • Dec 9th Christmas/holiday/white elephant

Your feedback is important, so don’t hesitate to contact me at events@yryc.org.  Suggestions are welcome and will be explored.

Fair winds,

June, Rear Commodore
