Upcoming Seminar – Racing Rules Made Easy

It’s never too early to start thinking about the 2019 racing season!

The Broad Bay Sailing Association will be hosting a seminar “Racing Rules Made Easy – Four Important Things Each Racer Needs to Know” on Saturday, February 9, 2019 from 8:00am – 12:00pm.  The location will be at Constant Hall at Old Dominion University in Norfolk.

The seminar will be taught by John McCarthy, US Sailing Race Officer, Instructor and Judge.  Cost of attendance is $15 for BBSA members and $20 for non-members.

The seminar, open to all, is designed to simplify the complex approach often taken when discussing racing rules.   The course will cover the four vital concepts every racer needs to understand:

  • Right of Way vs Give Way  (Give a little to get a lot)
  • Proper Course  (It isn’t really a mystery)
  • Rounding the Mark  (A few basic principles)
  • 3 Specific Situations  (You’ll see!!)

Rules Made Easy Style:

  • Deals with concepts, not memorizing rules
  • Scenario driven using magnetic boats on a whiteboard
  • Easy to understand and entertaining
  • Casual approach with coffee and pastries throughout the morning
