Yes, You Can Be a Committee Boat!

Committee Boat 2022

Imagine you are anchored out on the York with friends, drinks, and good food at hand, enjoying the day and watching friends sail by.  This describes the Race Committee Boat and its crew on the typical race day. By volunteering to be the committee boat for a race, you will have a great time, and do the race program a great service.

You do not need to be a racer or a sailboat to be a committee boat for a race!

Racers typically take turns as the committee boat, but this reduces the number of boats racing. With our small racing fleets, this is often painful.

The committee boat starts the race by displaying flags and sounding a horn.  The exact sequence is plainly described by documentation included in the “flag bag” (also in the 2022 Race Rules & Guidelines), a kit stored at each marina.  Once the race starts, just enjoy the day.  The final duty is simply to record the time as each racer finishes the course.  Others have volunteered and made a difference while enjoying time out on their boat.
