Harborfest 2023 Here We Come!

Harborfest Parade of Sails

The start of summer means Norfolk Harborfest, America’s largest, longest-running, free maritime festival, which enters its 47th year in 2023. And YRYC has 11 boats signed up to head to Norfolk for this year’s festival!

The sailboat fleet, led by S/V Sirena Gorda, will set sail for Old Point Comfort on Thursday, June 8 between 10am – 11am, and is inviting others to join them!

Once at OPC, boaters will anchor out and plan to enjoy a visit to Pheobus, taking full advantage of their dinghy dock.  Contact GT if you wish to join the Thursday fleet!

Motor vessels, having the speed advantage, can certainly join the sailing group, or may choose to motor ahead and meet at the rally point on Friday morning for the Parade of Sails.  Here is where our club will escort the SS Virginia into Downtown Norfolk.  Full instructions on the Parade of Sails is contained in your Harborfest bag.

Most club boats will be staying at Freemason Harbor, just a short stroll from Town Point Park, where the Harborfest events will take place.  Others will be staying across the Elizabeth River at Tidewater Marina and will take a quick ferry ride to come join in the fun.

If not going to Harborfest by boat, consider driving down and visiting the club docked in Freemason Harbor.  Just look for the Pagoda!
