Plan B for Memorial Day

Eagle Ship Figurehead

It seems a storm decided to blow through our weekend plans so the annual raft-up in Mobjack Bay was scuttled at the last minute.   But that did not stop YRYC from still holding a weekend full of fun and activities (because who else was going to eat all those carnitas that John H made!).

Friday night started off nicely with a very well attended Commodore’s Cocktail party.  Here is where we mapped out a blueprint for the rest of the weekend.

Saturday, we were able to enjoy the marina’s hospitality for their weekend barbeque and took our party ‘up the creek’, Sarah Creek that is, for a dock party at club members’ Deb and Ken’s home.

The rains came Sunday, so we found an indoor activity for club members to enjoy.  Just a short drive down Route 17, we took a road trip to the Mariners’ Museum and Park in Newport News.  Many of us had never had the opportunity to visit this museum and were utterly charmed by its exhibits.

Sunday night is the night we chose to have our big dinner.  It was big, too.  I think we counted close to 25+ in attendance!   Back by popular demand was John H’s carnitas, with all the street taco fixings.  Members brought all sorts of great snacks, sides and desserts to share.   Of course, we had a Jenga game going too.

While the weather was not great, it did turn into a weekend of great company and fun on the fly.

Enjoy some photos from the weekend!
